DESCRIPTION:About the Conference\nThe two H2020 sister projects INCENTIVE and TIME4CS join forces again to deliver their Joint Final Conference. The Conference will be a landmark event for the sustainability and legacy of the two projects and will take place on the 1st of November\, at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Save the date! \nTitled “Grounding Citizen Science in Research Institutions: Science with and for Citizens”\, the Conference will be held in the aftermath of the Citizen Science 4 Health Conference – CS4H (29 October – 1 November 2023\, more information here)\, in order to target the wider European Citizen Science community. \nThe event will take place at the DesignLab’s facilities at Twente University (more information in the agenda in the link). \n \nAgenda and format\nThe Conference will be divided into two parts. During the first part\, the two projects will present their work to the audience as a 5-step methodology of a common journey towards institutionalising Citizen Science in RPFOs around Europe. \nThe second part of the event will entail interaction. DESCRIPTION:The conference\, “Connect.Collaborate.Create: Bridging Communities for Participatory Research and Citizen Science 2023”\, will bring together the diverse European communities that create and support participatory research (including its funding) and citizen science. SUMMARY:The Citizen Science Hub of UAB presented in Sabadell
DESCRIPTION:The City Council of Sabadell organized a 2-day conference on Citizen Science\, called ‘Jornades de Ciència Ciutadana‘ that took place on 18 and 19 of October\, 2022. \nThis Conference is presented as a forum to make visible and promote the transversal and effective use of citizen science\, considering it an essential tool to respond to the current challenges of our society. A video for the inauguration of the event and additional information can be found here.\n \nOn behalf of INCENTIVE\, UAB participated in the roundtable on Implication of the population in health-related research\, presenting the pilot case of the Citizen Science Hub at UAB.  The presentations of this roundtable can be found here. \nIn total\, during the two days that the conference lasted\, there were 17 roundtables\, 10 lectures and 4 participatory workshops. DESCRIPTION:What is it about?\nThe synergising CitieS-Health project is inviting everyone to the final conference called “Shaping the Future of Citizen Science linking Environment and Health” that will take place in Rome on June 14th. This event\, titled  Shaping the Future of Citizen Science linking Environment and Health\, will be a hybrid meeting: online and in-person at the Sapienza University of Rome. This will be a free event open to the public\, but registration is required. \nAfter the welcome and presentation of the session by Annibale Biggeri\, researcher at the University of Padua\, and Xavier Basagaña\, researcher at ISGlobal and principal investigator of the CitieS-Health project\, there will be an introductory talk on the Combination of Citizen Science and Environmental Epidemiology by Fleur Froeling\, researcher at Utrecht University\, and Florence Gignac\, researcher at ISGlobal. \nSee the complete agenda here and make your inscription here. \nStructure of the event\nThe event will be divided into two main blocks. \nThe first block will cover the implementation of citizen science in the field of environment and health with a presentation on the experience of the CitieS-Health project by Xavier Basagaña. He will explain\, amongst other things what was done in each of the five city pilots in terms of co-creation\, the project toolkit\, and some lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. Afterward\, Marco Martuzzi\, Director of the Environment and Health Department at the Italian National Institute for Health and formerly at WHO\, will discuss the importance of citizen participation in health research and policy. Later\, Janneke Elberse\, Research Scientist on Citizen Science and Senior Advisor on Safety\, Perception\, and Behavior at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM)\, will present bottom-up citizen science affecting national institutes from an environmental epidemiology perspective. \nThe second block will bring results into policy\, moderated by Rosa Arias\, CEO at Science for Change\, and Alba L’Astorina\, researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR – IREA).  The epidemiological results of each CitieS-Health pilot study will be presented. Then\, there will be a session about citizen science and policymaking\, led by Angela Guimarães Pereira\, leader of the European Commission Competence Centre on Participatory and Deliberative Democracy (CC-DEMOS)\, followed by the session about bottom-up approaches to citizen engagement in policymaking in Environmental Health\, by Anne Stauffer\, Deputy Director\, Strategic Lead\, Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL). \nThe event will end with an open discussion and closing remarks.

DESCRIPTION:Societal impact is increasingly central to scientific research. How does new knowledge contribute to solving major issues in society? And how can we gain knowledge that is actually beneficial for society? Scientists are motivated to put their knowledge into practice\, which requires a deeper understanding of that same society. Cooperation is essential. \nCitizen science strives for a deepened cooperation between scientists and stakeholders from society\, in order to achieve that better understanding of societal challenges and the development of solutions that may be implemented in a sustainable way. \nOn Thursday 12 May 2022\, the University of Twente is organising a symposium on citizen science. The morning session is for UT staff and students only\, to exchange experiences\, lessons learned\, knowledge\, and expertise from UT citizen science initiatives. The afternoon session is open for everyone. Keynotes and discussions will be held on a variety of themes related to citizen science. \nCall for abstracts\n\n\nEmployees and students of the University of Twente may contribute to the morning session. \n\n\nThis event will be held in English and is powered by INCENTIVE.

SUMMARY:Engaging Citizen Science Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Engaging Citizen Science Conference 2022 is an interdisciplinary event that promotes knowledge sharing among the citizen science community. Citizen science researchers\, practitioners\, and citizens are invited to share their research\, ideas\, and innovation in through workshops\, dialogue roundtables\, posters\, and demos from diverse research areas\, including natural and technical sciences\, life and health sciences\, and social sciences and humanities. \nCitizen science as an interdisciplinary field holds promises for boosting scientific research\, increasing public participation in scientific research\, and empowering citizens in their everyday life. Citizen science covers many different initiatives and activities from crowdsourcing activities where citizens collect and analyze large amounts of data to deliberative processes where citizens are active in science-related policy-making. With roots in amateur science and participatory democracy\, citizen science currently develops rapidly to include many different innovative approaches\, including digital approaches\, to promote and sustain participation and empowerment. SUMMARY:D-NOSES Conference on Odour Pollution & Citizen Science
DESCRIPTION:About the Conference\nThe D-NOSES project has been pioneering the use of Citizen Science as a way to engage Quadruple Helix stakeholders in co-creating balanced approaches to odour issues. As a result\, D-NOSES created tools and methods to measure odour impact transparently and in real-time. The project now invites citizens\, scientists and stakeholders to join the project results conference to find out how their work has and will continue to impact odour management from a technical\, social and policy perspective. \nThe Conference is organised within the framework of the D-NOSES project\, which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 789315. \nThree live webinars will be held between 14 and 20 October: \n\n14/10: The D-NOSES project at a glance\n18/10: The D-NOSES methodology and results to tackle odour pollution using citizen science\n20/10: Introducing odour pollution in the policy agendas\n\nFind the detailed programme for each of the three webinars here. \nRegistration here. \n\nAbout the D-Noses project\nD-NOSES – “The Distributed Network for Odour Sensing\, Empowerment and Sustainability” is an EU-funded H2020 SwafS project that empowers citizens to become a driving force for change through Responsible Research and Innovation\, Citizen Science and co-creation tools to map and measure the problem\, and co-design solutions with key Quadruple Helix stakeholders. The 3 year-a-long project is supported by key experts in RRI\, citizen science and co-creation\, International Associations\, odour and sustainability experts\, including universities and SMEs\, local administration\, and public sector bodies. D-NOSES will reverse the way in which odour pollution is commonly tackled (i.e. a non-transparent\, private process involving either the odour emitting industry or the local city council\, with no citizen involvement and poor access to data and information) by applying a holistic approach to researching\, building\, and suggesting an appropriate regulatory framework\, which can act as a basis of the future odour pollution control efforts. \nD-NOSES empowers citizens to become a driving force for change through RRI\, Citizen Science and co-creation tools to map and measure the problem\, and co-design solutions with key quadruple helix stakeholders. SUMMARY:1st Global Transdisciplinarity Conference
DESCRIPTION:What is the Conference about?\nThe 1st Global Transdisciplinarity Conference started in fall 2020 with a series of virtual pre-meetings with a selected group of international scholars from diverse disciplines\, linked by a strong commitment to science-society-collaboration (SSC) and knowledge integration. \nUnder the umbrella of systems and complexity sciences these pre-conferences brought together a core group of researchers interested in social transformation\, innovation\, and the role of academia and institutions of higher education in the transition towards a fair and sustainable global human-environment coupled system under the One Health-paradigm. \nWhy is the event relevant to INCENTIVE?\nIn INCENTIVE\, higher educational institutions are the protagonist and main driver of institutional change towards grounding RRI principles through the institutionalization of Citizen Science Hubs. Four universities across Europe will\, for the first time\, co-create and sustain their own Hub\, which will bring together scientists\, citizens\, entrepreneurs\, and policymakers to achieve inclusive and more open scientific structures. As such\, the Conference can offer important insights on how academia and educational institutions can become a societal tool for achieving open science and sustainability. \nWho can attend\, and how?\nThe main conference will be held in fall 2021 in Krems an der Donau (Austria) at Danube University as well as its surroundings in the World Heritage Region of Wachau. It will be an intense\, three-day working (27-29 September) and networking experience designed to both give space for individual exchange as well as to building a common understanding of the possibilities\, challenges\, and advances in the field of Science Society Collaboration. \nHowever\, given the ongoing pandemic and the need to attract individuals that will not be able to attend in person\, the conference is set up as a hybrid event.
