As the effects of climate change worsen, researchers, stakeholders, and citizens are increasingly partnering on citizen science (CS) projects to gather and analyse data to make our communities more sustainable, resilient, and safe. Yet, a persistent concern is whether CS projects are actively engaging citizens most affected by different conditions or proposed remedies. This open public seminar presents examples of Tampere-area projects that have used different strategies to make their citizen science more inclusive, equitable, and empowering for participating citizens and stakeholders. It is free and open to all interested.

The seminar is organised by the ECIE pilot – Establishing a community on empowering, inclusive and equitable citizen science within ECIU – and the Resilient Communities of practice, funded by the RESILIENT project (ECIU-SMART-ER) in collaboration with STUE -Sustainable Transformation of Urban Environments. ECIE-pilot research is being conducted at six institutions that are members of the ECIU consortium: the University of Twente, the University of Aveiro, Dublin City University, Kaunas University of Technology, Linköping University, and Tampere University.
